Quick answer
If you changed jobs and your new employer is covered by EPF, transferring the old balance usually preserves one continuous service record. Withdrawal is a separate option subject to EPFO eligibility and tax rules. Before doing either, make sure your UAN, Aadhaar, PAN, bank account, name, date of birth, and employment dates agree.
Use only EPFO's official website and the member portal linked from it.
Transfer versus withdrawal
| Situation | Usually check first | | --- | --- | | Joined another EPF-covered employer | Online transfer and correct linking of the existing UAN | | Not currently employed | Eligibility for the specific withdrawal or advance claim | | Need money for a permitted purpose while employed | Current partial-advance rules and supporting conditions | | Retiring or permanently leaving eligible service | Final-settlement and pension-related requirements | | Two UANs or overlapping service records | Record correction or consolidation before a claim |
Do not choose a claim form from a social-media video alone. EPFO changes workflows and may process some claims differently based on verified member data.
Pre-claim UAN checklist
- Your name, gender, and date of birth match Aadhaar
- Aadhaar and PAN status show correctly in the member profile
- The bank account is active, belongs to you, and has the correct IFSC
- All employers and joining/leaving dates appear in service history
- The previous employer has entered the date of exit where required
- There is no unexplained duplicate UAN or overlapping employment
- Your mobile access and Aadhaar-linked authentication work
- You understand whether the claim may have tax or pension consequences
Take screenshots or download records before requesting corrections, but never store or send an unmasked Aadhaar, PAN, bank statement, password, or OTP through an untrusted channel.
Online transfer flow after a job change
- Sign in to the Unified Member Portal through EPFO's official website.
- Review personal details, KYC, service history, and the previous member ID.
- Open the online transfer request and verify the displayed employment records.
- Choose the attestation route offered by the portal, if a choice is shown.
- Authenticate and submit using the official flow.
- Save the tracking reference and monitor status.
- After completion, confirm that the passbook and service history reflect the transfer.
EPFO announced a simplified transfer-claim process in April 2025 that removed employer routing in many cases, but exceptions can still require review. Read the current official instructions shown for your account.
Before an EPF withdrawal or advance
Identify the exact claim type and reason. Full settlement, pension withdrawal benefit, partial advance, and transfer are not interchangeable. Check eligibility, service period, unemployment status where relevant, tax impact, and the bank account that will receive payment.
If the claim is rejected, read the recorded reason first. Re-submitting unchanged information can produce the same result.
Common rejection or delay reasons
- Aadhaar, PAN, bank, or UAN details do not match
- Incorrect or missing date of exit
- Duplicate UAN or inconsistent service history
- Bank account is closed, unverified, or has an incorrect IFSC
- The selected claim reason is not eligible
- Required service period or supporting condition is not met
- Employer or EPFO record correction is still pending
- The same claim was recently submitted or settled
Escalation path
Keep the claim ID, rejection reason, UAN, relevant member ID, and dates ready. Use the grievance channel linked from EPFO's official site when the normal correction or claim route has not resolved the issue. Share only the minimum personal information needed and redact public attachments.
NammaGuide can help map the issue and prepare a checklist. EPF operational assistance accepted by Kustodian.Life is separately scoped, charged, and delivered by Kustodian.Life. Neither provider can approve a claim or guarantee EPFO timelines.

FAQ
Should I transfer or withdraw EPF after changing jobs?
Transfer is generally the continuity-focused route when you move to another EPF-covered employer. Withdrawal eligibility depends on the claim type and current EPFO rules. Check your service history and official eligibility before choosing.
Why is an EPF claim rejected?
Frequent causes include name or date-of-birth mismatches, incomplete KYC, bank-detail problems, service-history inconsistencies, duplicate UANs, an ineligible claim type, or missing employer approval where required. The exact reason shown by EPFO controls the next step.
Can an agent guarantee PF withdrawal?
No private person can guarantee EPFO approval or processing time. Never share your OTP or password, and pay only the provider identified in a written scope.
